Det Gyldne Kabel Award

A recognition award for Elnetselskabet N1, turning the company's own cable logo into a physical object. Golden acrylic strands sweep between 3D printed pylons.

The project

Det Gyldne Kabel, the golden cable, is a recognition award made in 2024 for Elnetselskabet N1, an electricity network company. The award takes the cable form directly from the company's own logo and rebuilds it as a physical object around 20 cm tall, so the brand mark becomes the sculpture itself rather than a label applied to one.

The approach

A logo drawn as a flat line does not automatically work in three dimensions. The sweep of the cable had to keep the shape of the mark while gaining enough physical presence to stand as an object, which meant the strands needed real thickness, real spacing, and something to hang between. Power pylons provided that structure, and they also place the mark in the company's own world rather than in an abstract one.

How it was made

The base is 3D printed, with laser cut plates fitted to the front and back faces to give the lettering physical depth rather than a printed surface, and the two faces carry different text. The pylons are 3D printed. The cable elements are laser cut from acrylic as flat strands, painted gold, then arranged to sweep between the pylons as a bundle. Every component was produced separately and assembled afterwards, which is what allows each part to be made by whichever process suits it best.

Where the same approach works

Translating a flat brand mark into a physical object usually means rebuilding it rather than simply extruding it. Choosing a different process for each component and assembling afterwards is what keeps that affordable at small numbers. The same approach suits corporate recognition awards, brand sculptures, anniversary pieces, and any object built around an existing logo.
